All the carping about visas and outsourcing of late has left many in the IT industry longing for a positive step forward. Along these lines, the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) Educational Foundation keeps moving in the right direction, most recently with the announcement of increased support from several leading organizations in the technology and training industries for its Creating Futures program.
Tech manufacturers HP and Ricoh are among the companies supporting Creating Futures through donations of materials, services and expertise. The donations are providing individuals with opportunities for education, training and professional certifications as the first steps on the road to rewarding careers in technology.
Creating Futures is targeted at providing IT career opportunities to veterans transitioning out of the military; individuals with disabilities; at-risk youth; and dislocated workers. The program works with employers to identify their hiring needs, then tailors education and training programs to help individuals obtain the skills employers are looking for.
