Less than two weeks before the Senate confirmation hearing on his nomination to be an associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court is set to begin, federal judge John G. Roberts has received the endorsement of a second major Washington, D.C.-based business group. Roberts, who has argued 39 cases before the Supreme Court, "brings substantial experience advocating for the nation's leading businesses on matters ranging from the supremacy of federal law to the proper interpretation of the Americans with Disabilities Act," said the U.S. Chamber of Commerce on August 24 in announcing its endorsement.

Two weeks earlier, on August 10, the National Association of Manufacturers announced support for Roberts, the first time in the group's 110-year history that it had taken a position on a Supreme Court nominee.

If confirmed, as is expected, Roberts would fill the court seat being vacated by Justice Sandra Day O'Connor. The Supreme Court's new term begins on Oct. 3.
