Oreck Corp. Opens Tennessee Plant

Dec. 16, 2006
Tennessee chosen for shipping location, workforce and government cooperation.

At least 100 new jobs for Cookeville, Tenn., a majority of them for assembly workers, material handlers and skilled trades. That was the prospect as New Orleans-based Oreck Corp., a maker of vacuum cleaners, air purifiers and other home products, opened its newest U.S. manufacturing facility on Oct. 24.

"Cookeville complements our existing Long Beach, Miss., facility," said Tom Oreck, the company's president and CEO, when the new location was announced in late July. "Cookeville was selected because of its ideal geographic shipping location, strong work ethic and the commitment by state and local leaders to attract and grow business in Tennessee," he explained. "Purchasing an Oreck product helps keep manufacturing and other related jobs in America," he added. His father, David Oreck, founded the company 43 years ago.
