U.S. Regulators Probing Post-recall Toyota Complaints

Received some complaints that drivers were experiencing sudden spikes in speed in cars that had been repaired

Regulators said on March 3 they were looking into complaints from Toyota drivers who say they experienced sudden spikes in speed in vehicles repaired under the auto giant's recall.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration chief David Strickland said the agency "has already started contacting consumers about these complaints to get to the bottom of the problem and to make sure Toyota is doing everything possible to make its vehicles safe."

"If Toyota owners are still experiencing sudden acceleration incidents after taking their cars to the dealership, we want to know about it," he said.

U.S. Department of Transportation spokeswoman Olivia Alair said NHTSA "has identified ten post-recall allegations of unintended acceleration in Toyota vehicles and continues to screen incoming complaints."

NHTSA "began contacting consumers who've made these complaints yesterday and have conducted several interviews," Alair said by email.
