Slightly more than half -- 53% to be exact -- of 1,324 CEOs around the world responding to a recent PricewaterhouseCooper's survey on governance, risk management and compliance believe that codes of conduct are fully developed within their companies. Far fewer say their compliance and ethics programs meet the same standard. And one-third of the CEOs believe their performance measures for governance, risk management and compliance are not well-developed -- if they exist at all.

The survey was conducted between September and November of last year and involved CEOs in North America, South America, Europe, Asia and the Pacific, and Africa. Manufacturers and other goods producers accounted for 72% of the respondents; financial services firms accounted for 18%, and technology and media companies accounted for 10%.
