With the U.S. Senate having approved the U.S.-Oman Free Trade Agreement on September 19, the pact now goes to the White House for President George Bush's signature. It will be the fifth free-trade agreement between the U.S. and Middle East nations. The four others are Bahrain, Israel, Jordan, and Morocco.

When the agreement takes effect, all U.S. consumer and industrial products will enter Oman duty-free, expanding the opportunities for U.S. exports of, among other items, machinery, automobiles, electrical machinery, and optic and medical instruments, says the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, Susan C. Schwab.
