BMW already signed a partnership agreement with Toyota earlier this month to co-develop new-generation batteries for electric and hybrid cars.

BMW intends to work with General Motors on new-technology development, a spokesman for BMW said on Monday.

"We're holding talks with GM on various new technologies," the spokesman said, without disclosing any further details.

According to the weekly magazine WirtschaftsWoche in its latest edition, the two automakers plan to collaborate on fuel cells, with GM sharing its research in that area in return for BMW putting up some of the funding.

Negotiations are at an advanced stage and the partnership could be officially announced after the North American International Auto Show in mid-January, the magazine said.
