EU To Release Blocked Chinese Clothes On Wednesday

Chinese textiles blocked for weeks at European ports can be released as of Sept. 14 when a quota deal struck between the EU and China goes into effect. The regulation will be formally published on Sept. 13 and will become effective on Sept. 14, allowing EU member state governments to grant import licenses for the blocked goods, according to Francoise Le Bail, spokeswoman for the EU.

EU trade chief Peter Mandelson secured a deal in Beijing last week to unblock millions of items of clothing stopped after an initial June quota accord with Beijing led to a rush of orders from European retailers.
