The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has grown its Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) with the addition of two pilots. The goal, says OSHA Administrator John Henshaw, is to provide additional opportunities "for more employers and employees who want to work with OSHA to create safer and healthier workplaces." The two pilots, which OSHA will evaluate after one year, are OSHA Challenge and VPP Corporate. OSHA Challenge provides a roadmap to improve performance and ultimately reach VPP Merit or Star Status. OSHA's Voluntary Protection Programs promote excellence in workplace safety and health. The second pilot, VPP Corporate, explains OSHA, is designed to eliminate barriers some companies face in trying to implement VPP companywide. The program includes mentoring, outreach activities and streamlined application and onsite evaluation processes. A PDF with additional information about the pilots is available at www.osha.gov/OshDoc/data_General_Facts/the-three-cs-of-vpp.pdf .
