India Looking to Raise Manufacturing's Share of GDP to 25%

Jan. 23, 2014
This increase would create 100 million skilled jobs says Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma.

While in Davos, Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma announced some very big plans.

He said that his country needs to expand its manufacturing sector to boost exports and ensure sustainability, according to an article on thehindu.com. This is due to the fact that the country’s exports have slowed to 6% in November.

The plan is to move manufacturing’s share of GDP up from the current 15%-16% to 25%. This will create 100 million jobs by 2022.
