Happy Flag Day! Do You Know Where Your Flag was Manufactured?

June 14, 2014
Odds are that your flag is imported, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, Foreign Trade Statistics.

In celebration of Flag Day, the U.S. Census Bureau released a new graphic showing the value of U.S. imports and exports of American Flags in 2012, shown above.

The vast majority of the imports come from China, according to the Flag Manufacturers Association of America (FMAA).

The FMAA established the “Certified Made in the U.S.A.” certification program, which certifies that your American flag has been made in the U.S. of materials that are domestic in origin and that all processes in every step of its manufacture were completed in U.S. facilities with U.S. labor.

U.S. law requires every American flag be labeled with its country of origin.

The leading flag manufacturers that currently support “Certified Made in the U.S.A. ” through FMAA, include the following companies:

Annin Flagmakers
C.F. Flag
J.C. Schultz Enterprises, Inc. / The Flag Source
Valley Forge Flag
