Snee is New President at Hormel Foods

James Snee, who had led Hormel Foods' international operations, becomes president and COO of the multinational food manufacturer.

Hormel Foods (IW 500/119), a manufacturer of food and meat brands such as CHI-CHI’s, SPAM, Jennie-O and Skippy peanut butter, announced several changes in its senior leadership effective October 26.

James P. Snee has been elected by Hormel Foods’ Board of Directors to the position of president and chief operating officer. He will succeed Jeffrey M. Ettinger, who will continue to serve as chairman and chief executive officer of the Austin, Minn.-headquartered firm which had revenue of $9.3 billion in its 2014 fiscal year. Snee will be just the tenth president in Hormel’s 125-year history.

Snee had been group vice president of Hormel Foods and president of Hormel Foods International Corporation (HFIC), overseeing the company’s international operations, which span more than 50 countries.

“Jim is a strong leader and has my confidence and the trust of our board," said Ettinger. "Under Jim’s direction, the international segment has delivered double-digit sales and earnings growth, expanded its global footprint, and driven impressive growth of our operations in China.”

Snee joined Hormel Foods in 1989 and served in various roles in the company’s foodservice operations. He was named director of purchasing in 2006 and vice president of affiliated business units in 2008. In 2011, he advanced to senior vice president of HFIC and became a group vice president in 2012.

Other promotions announced at the company:

  • Larry L. Vorpahl, group vice president and president of consumer products sales, will assume the position of group vice president and president of Hormel Foods International. 
  • Deanna T. Brady, group vice president, foodservice, has been appointed to the position of group vice president and president of consumer products sales. 
  • Jeffrey R. Baker, vice president of marketing, foodservice, will advance to group vice president, foodservice.
  • David F. Weber, president of Burke Corp., has been promoted to vice president of marketing, foodservice.
