Designing Safer Solutions

May 7, 2020
Dassault Systèmes collaborative simulation software enables design community as it collectively responds to COVID-19 needs.

Dassault Systèmes, a global software developer whose products are used around the world to design and manufacture products, has created a forum for these experts with the launch of the Open COVID-19 Community.

The community is an online workspace where engineers, designers, makers and manufacturers around the world can work together on innovative solutions and stay in touch throughout the process, from idea to execution. The community is built on Dassault 3DEXPERIENCE Platform, which is designed to enable collaboration.

Given the need for a rapid response to emergencies (such as the construction of the Leishenshan Hospital), the teams at Dassault are also on alert on a global scale to answer requests for help in creating safer health care facilities, life environments (temporary, retrofitted or permanent) and life-saving machines like ventilators.

The company has tested its SIMULIA CFD/fluids solutions to validate the results. Knowing that COVID-19 can spread through sneezing and coughing, Dassault has developed a simulation of a human sneeze, which shows how mucus particles distribute through the air and can contaminate surfaces.

Dassault can simulate the spread of water droplets that could carry a virus pathogen from a sneeze/cough, and also have the ability to virtually simulate particle transmission paths in various environments (hospital rooms, offices, vehicles, aircraft, etc.). Its solutions are available on the cloud for easy, remote access. Dassault teams have the ability to engage immediately on these projects in these challenging times of social distancing and self-shelter.
