Johnson Controls Selected to Sustainability Index

Sept. 17, 2008
Fourth-straight year on Dow Jones list

Automotive components manufacturer Johnson Controls Inc. was selected for the fourth-consecutive year to the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes (DJSI) North America and World categories for 2008. The DJSI tracks the financial performance of sustainability-driven companies worldwide, the company said Sept. 17.

DJSI members are selected based on economic, environmental, and social performance criteria, which include corporate governance, environmental policy and management, environmental and social reporting, stakeholder engagement, corporate citizenship and philanthropy.

DJSI World includes the top 10 percent of companies ranked by sustainability performance in each DJSI sector. Only 320 companies out of the 2,500 largest in the world are included in this year's index.

Johnson Controls' sustainability efforts include participation in industry efforts to make lead-acid automotive batteries the most recycled consumer product in the United States and production of hybrid battery systems.
