Samsung Electronics to Invest $22.7 Billion in Manufacturing Plants

Funds will be spent this year on new semiconductor plants

Samsung Electronics said on May 17 it would invest a record 26 trillion won (US$22.7 billion) this year in manufacturing plants and research and development.

The company said in a statement about 11 trillion won would be spent on new semiconductor plants and about five trillion would be used to expand capacity for LCD panel production.

About eight trillion won would be invested in research and development.
