Clean Energy Should be Invented in America, Made in America and Sold Around the World

Those are the fighting words of U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu who spoke them back in June of this year as he announced the 13 projects that his department will fund. With the goal of helping the manufacturing sector get the resources it needs, the Energy Department invested $54 million in 13 projects. Waving the flag at every turn, Secretary Chu’s office said it is supporting "an economy built on American manufacturing, American energy, and skills for American workers."

With the goal of helping the manufacturing sector get the resources it needs, the Energy Department invested $54 million in 13 projects.

Waving the flag at every turn, Secretary Chu’s office said it is supporting "an economy built on American manufacturing, American energy, and skills for American workers."

The projects selected for award negotiations represent research and development ranging from the early stages of applied research, or proof of concept, up to laboratory testing or prototype verification.

The following projects were selected:

American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) - Salt Lake City, Utah

Delphi Automotive Systems, LLC - Rochester, N.Y.

General Motors LLC - Warren, Mich.

Lyondell Chemical Co. - Newtown Square, Pa.

MEMC Electronic Materials, Inc. - St. Peters, Mo.

MIT - Cambridge, Mass.

PolyPlus Battery Co.- Berkeley, Calif.

Research Triangle Institute - Research Triangle Park, N.C.

Teledyne Scientific and Imaging - Thousand Oaks, CA

The Dow Chemical Co. - Midland, Mich.

The University of Utah - Salt Lake City, Utah

Third Wave Systems, Inc. - Minneapolis, Minn.
