MEDRAD, Inc., a business of Bayer HealthCare, joined an elite group of only five companies that have received the prestigious Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award more than once.
The company, a provider of computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and interventional cardiology, announced on Nov. 23 that it will receive a 2010 Baldrige Award for excellence in manufacturing -- an honor that it first received in 2003.
The Baldrige Award is the top honor a U.S. company can achieve for performance excellence, and is traditionally presented by the President of the United States. Over 80 organizations applied for the award this year. Named after a former secretary of commerce, the Baldrige Award was established by Congress in 1987 to enhance the competitiveness of U.S. business by recognizing role model companies for business achievements and successful performance strategies.
"I could not be more proud of our employees. They have continued to deliver for our customers in spite of a tough economy, and are committed to continuously improving what we do, and how we do it. This award belongs to them," said CEO Sam Liang.
The company began incorporating the use of Baldrige criteria in the '90s. Today, the criteria are a key input into what MEDRAD refers to as "Performance Excellence," or the relentless pursuit of continuous improvement that will exceed the expectations of customers, shareholders and employees.
