Five countries are home to 59% of the companies on the IW 1000. U.S. - $5.6 trillion Japan - $3.1 trillion Germany - $1.5 trillion United Kingdom - $1.5 trillion China - $1.4 trillion

The companies comprising this year’s IW 1000 – IndustryWeek’s annual list of the largest publicly-held manufacturers based on revenue – generated $21 trillion in 2012, a 5% increase from the previous year.

The United States, which is home to the most companies on the IW 1000, generated $5.6 trillion in 2012. That means the 266 U.S. companies on the list represented 27% of the total revenues of the world’s top 1000 manufacturers.

Yet Germany, which only has 36 companies of the top manufacturers, recorded revenues of $1.5 trillion, or 7% of the total revenues of the IW 1000 companies.
