Trying to garner more of the $23.5 billion market for supply chain optimization, IBM has acquired Viacore Inc., an Irvine, Ca.-based company that provides business process and integration solutions. Viacore's supply chain product, BusinessTone, is an on-demand solution that assists companies managing high-volume, real-time process flows.

The acquisition of Viacore will give IBM additional capabilities in the electronic and retail industries.
