With Asia's fast pace manufacturing growth, Symbol Technologies, a New York-based RFID system provider, wants a bigger pie of the pie. According to a May 13 report posted on The Nation, a Bangkok-based Web site, Joe White, vice president of engineering for Symbol, said Symbol saw opportunities for RFID systems in many industries in the region, including aviation, transport, logistics, container handling, warehousing and distribution, plus retailing. He was in Bangkok for the company's regional meeting.

Symbol already has two customers in Thailand, TNT Logistics and Colestica, an electronics manufacturer according to the article by Kwanchai Rungfapaisarn.

Touting the business benefits for RFID, Symbol pointed to a study by the University of Arkansas in conjunction with Wal-Mart that found RFID increased sales and product availability by 30%.
