Zebra Technologies, a Vernon Hills, Ill.-based on-demand printing solutions company, has teamed up with Gen 2 inlay manufacturers including Alien Technology, Avery Dennison, Raflatac, Symbol Technologies and Texas Instruments to produce labels, tickets, wristbands and other smart media to provide RFID for a variety of pallet, case and other tracking needs.

"The increasing demand for smart media reflects the growing acceptance of RFID applications in business today," said Bob Cornick, general manager for RFID at Zebra Technologies.

The demand for smart media is forecast at 1.3 billion tags in 2006 according to ID TechEx, a Cupertino, Calif.-based consulting firm. Of these about 500 million RFID smart labels will be used for pallet and case level tagging.
