18 Public Missouri High Schools Among Top in the U.S.

The Daily Beast has ranked 18 public high schools in Missouri among the top in the nation. The list includes 13 in the St. Louis metro area and four in the Kansas City metro area.

The Daily Beast has ranked 18 public high schools in Missouri among the top in the nation. The list includes 13 in the St. Louis metro area and four in the Kansas City metro area.

Over 700 schools that make up our final list deserve high praise for providing an academically rigorous program for the most students, while best preparing them for college,” the Daily Beast reported.

The 13 schools on the list in the St. Louis metro area include:

  • No. 63 Ladue Horton Watkins High School (St. Louis)

  • No. 78 Metro Academic & Classical High (St. Louis)

  • No. 108 Kirkwood High School (Kirkwood)

  • No. 257 Lafayette High School (Wildwood)

  • No. 260 Parkway West High School (Ballwin)

  • No. 269 Lindbergh High School (St. Louis)

  • No. 328 Rockwood Summit (Fenton)

  • No. 387 Eureka High School (Eureka)

  • No. 396 Parkway South High School (Manchester)

  • No. 424 Parkway Central High School (Chesterfield)

  • No. 439 Marquette High School (Chesterfield)

  • No. 503 Parkway North High School (St. Louis County)

  • No. 524 Valley Park High School (Valley Park)

Seven schools in the St. Louis metro area also ranked in the top 100 in five separate categories, ACT/SAT Score, Graduation Rate, College Bound, Rigor and Free/Reduced Lunch. Those schools include: Ladue Horton Watkins High School for ACT/SAT Score and Rigor; Metro Academics & Classical High School for ACT/SAT Score, Graduation Rate and College Bound; Kirkwood High School for Graduation Rate; Lafayette High School for ACT/SAT Score; Parkway West High School for ACT/SAT Score; Lindbergh High School for ACT/SAT Score; and Valley Park High School for Free/Reduced Lunch.

The four schools on the list in the Kansas City metro area include:

  • No. 149 Lincoln College Preparatory Academy (Kansas City)

  • No. 294 Staley High School (Kansas City)

  • No. 422 Grain Valley High School (Grain Valley)

  • No. 618 Park Hill South High School (Riverside)

Three schools in the Kansas City metro area also ranked in the top 100 in the separate categories listed above. Those schools include: Lincoln College Preparatory Academy for Free & Reduced Lunch; Grain Valley High School for Graduation Rate; and Park Hill South High School for ACT/SAT Score.

Listed at No. 730 is Malden High School, which also was also ranked in the top 100 for Free/Reduced Lunch. Malden High School is located in Malden, Missouri, a small town in the “bootheel” region of the state.

To produce the list, the Daily Beast used data from the U.S. Department of Education in addition to data produced from school surveys that the publication sent to high schools across the country.
