Steelworkers to Rally in Alabama Against Cheap Imports

June 12, 2014
The Alliance for American Manufacturing, U.S. Steel and the United Steelworkers will hold the latest in a series of rallies next week in Alabama to protest foreign steelmakers' dumping of below-cost imported steel into the United States.

Alabama Media Group reports that the Alliance for American Manufacturing, U.S. Steel and the United Steelworkers will hold a rally Monday at the U.S. Steel Fairfield Works and Tubular Operations in Fairfield, Alabama, to protest foreign steelmakers' dumping of below-cost imported steel into the United States.

Scheduled speakers at the rally include U.S. Representatives Terri Sewell and Spencer Bachus, and Scott Paul, president of the Alliance for American Manufacturing.

The demonstration is the fifth in a series of events held around the country over the last six weeks. Earlier rallies were held at U.S. Steel facilities in Munhall, Pennsylvania; Granite City, Illinois; Lone Star, Texas; and Lorain, Ohio.

A handful of domestic producers led by U.S. Steel filed the original trade complaint in December. In a preliminary ruling issued in February, the Commerce Department rejected the domestic producers' complaint. The department says it will announce its final determination on the matter "on or about" July 8.
