Honeywell to Furlough Aerospace Workers

May 31, 2016
Most non-production employees will be affected for the week of June 27 through July 3.

Citing a slowdown throughout the aerospace industry, Honeywell announced Wednesday that most of its aerospace employees in the United States and Puerto Rico will be furloughed without pay for the week of June 27 through July 3, the South Bend (Ind.) Tribune reported.

The furlough applies to most nonproduction employees. In addition, Honeywell has canceled its merit-based pay raises for the year.

“Although we are seeing growth in some parts of the business and have gained efficiencies through technology enhancements and improved execution, we continue to face significant headwinds that require us to further optimize our cost structure,” the company said in a letter to employees.

Since May 9, more than 300 members of UAW Local 9 have been locked out of Honeywell’s aerospace plant in South Bend because of a contract dispute. The furloughs do not affect those workers.
