Podcast: What Good is Generative AI to Manufacturing?

Sept. 6, 2023
ChatGPT can crank out funny song lyrics in seconds, but what can it do on a shop floor?

Generative AI is the big tech story of the moment, but can it really do anything? Sure, it can rewrite a term paper for a college student, generate customer pitches for salespeople or give you a (wildly inaccurate) summary of what really happened in Roswell, New Mexico. But can it improve toolpaths for machine tools, cut wasted motions in robots or improve flow through your manufacturing operations?

To answer that, IndustryWeek recently invited several of our colleagues from Endeavor Business Media to discuss what's possible with generative AI now, and what might be coming in the future. Bob Vavra from Machine Design and Mike Bacidore from Control Design joined us to mull over the topic. The following podcast is a recording from that Aug. 31 livestreamed conversation.
