Using massive lasers and decades of scientific expertise, U.S. Department of Energy researchers produced a stable fusion reaction on Dec. 5, bringing the promise of clean, plentiful energy if technical challenges can be solved.
The technology is far from commercial availability, and years if not decades of research will be needed to further develop systems. But, the long-sought-after technology could be a massive scientific breakthrough. More on this story from IndustryWeek parent company Endeavor Business Media’s scientific and energy-related publications:
- EnergyTech editor Rod Walton describes the breakthrough and offers context on the research that went into the power generation.
- From Laser Focus World, a look at initiatives early this year to develop the lasers needed to make fusion a reality.
