A new postgraduate program for executives called Visionary Leadership in manufacturing was launched in India with the goal of generating generate "300 visionary leaders in the manufacturing sector in the next three years," said Dr. V. Krishnamurthy, chairman, National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council (NMCC).
Dr. Krishnamurthy, pointed out that India's manufacturing growth could reach 14% in the coming year and the real challenge would be to sustain this growth so that share of manufacturing in India's GDP could be stepped up from the current 17% to 30%.
The program is a joint venture by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and Indian Institute of Management. The one-year program will begin in August. The program will be under the direction of Professor. Shoji Shiba who has been associated for more than a decade with successful manufacturing leadership programs at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has also helped develop the Visionary Leadership Program in India along with IIT/Kanpur, IIT/Madras and IIM/Kolkata.
