Around 4,000 staff at the biggest German power group E.ON demonstrated on June 18 in the western city of Duesseldorf against plans to eliminate 10,000 posts, Josef Cieniewicz of the Verdi trade union said.
The union said that E.ON planned to eliminate nearly 10,000 European posts as part of a plan aimed at saving 1.5 billion euros (US$2.1 billion) by 2011.
Cieniewicz said the protestors were mainly German but that delegations had been sent from seven other European countries.
E.ON, which employs a total of some 92,000 workers, has said that no decisions regarding redundancies have been taken so far.
