Invests $4.9 million and adds 250 jobs

Continuing its growth in Europe, GE announced on April 28 that it has invested $4.9 million (900 million Hungarian Forint) at its zd facility in northeast Hungary. The investment will create an additional 250 jobs at the site.

The zd plant produces GE Energy's 'Elfa Plus' range of safety and electrical system protection devices, which are exported to markets throughout Europe, the Middle East, Africa and South America.
This plant is currently the largest employer in the town of zd and the additional 250 jobs brings the total employed to 1600.

The 20,000-square-meter facility was opened in October 1999 and is recognized as a model site for manufacturing, according to GE.

"Building our business around local operations, like here in Hungary, is critical to evolving into a truly global company," said Todd Johnstone, chief executive officer of GE Energy's Industrial Solutions business in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

The zd plant produces circuit breakers and other safety and protection devices for use in a wide range of domestic and industrial electrical installations. GE has invested in new production technologies, including ultrasonic washing, laser welding and clean room assembly facilities at the plant.
