Program aligns with federal goals

Employers can test prospective manufacturing workers' skills prior to hiring them with a new online assessment tool.

SkillsUSA said March 16 that it will offer eight technical assessments to help candidates prove entry-level proficiency.

The program is designed to align with education and industry standards to provide employers with an evaluation of entry-level technical skills, according to SkillsUSA.

Each Skill Connect Assessment evaluates entry-level knowledge and skills through interactive questions, including videos and animation.

The program was designed with input from more than 3,000 instructors, state directors of education, and industry partners nationwide, SkillsUSA said.

Assessments for automated manufacturing technology and welding are available for $20 per assessment, or $5 for SkillsUSA members. Each Skill Connect assessment will consist of approximately 50 items and will take an estimated 60 minutes to complete. Items will be delivered randomly from an item bank, as will the possible answers to each question stem -- all according to the assessment blueprint defined.
