DaimlerChrysler has chosen TDS/US to operate an inbound parts sequencing center for its Belvidere,Ill., assembly plant. The multi-year contract, announced on Feb.3, is valued at more than $200 million.

The Belvidere sequencing center, named as the third most productive plan in its vehicle segment by the 2004 Harbour Report, processes more than 2,300 different parts and delivers them to work stations on the vehicle assembly line. TDS/US expects will provide sequencing, parts metering, kitting and container management services.

"This supply chain management contract will allow us to meet the logistics needs of one of our soon-to-be most flexible plants while aggressively managing our material costs," says Peter Rosenfeld, DaimlerChrysler Corp.'s executive vice president, procurement and supply. Last week DaimlerChrysler announced it will invest $419 million in the Belvidere plant adding a second shift and up to 1,000 jobs in preparation of an early 2006 production launch.
